Robot Monster (Ro-Man)

This kit springs from the cheesy 1953 B-movie (also called Robot Monster) in which a robot resembling a gorilla in a diving helmet, terrorizes the last six humans on earth (possibly by making them laugh so hard that they wet themselves).

  • I was given this kit as a repair job. The poorly molded hollow resin kit had limbs that joined badly leaving large jagged holes. Additionally, the helmet had a "scary" monster face sculpted in (unlike the plain face of the movie creature) and there was no provision for the necessary antenna other than stubs.

I fixed the limbs, puttied them, then re-carved the fur pile in with a Dremel. I Dremeled out the face and poured epoxy to make a face-plate, then added the breather disc. A new antenna was then fabricated to resemble the prototype. Finally, at the client's request, the model was painted resin-buff color to match other unpainted models in his collection.
