Disneyland's King Arthur Carousel
a motorized replica to complete a discontinued collection
Several years ago, a collectibles manufacturer offered a tabletop model of California's original Disneyland, including Main Street, the Teacup Ride and other classic attractions. Each attraction was sold as a separate piece to fit into a foam park diorama base. Unfortunately, the line was discontinued before all of the attractions were designed and produced. The client wanted to fit the holes in his collection so he commissioned the craftsmen at SMARTT to make the missing pieces, one of which is King Arthur's Carousel.
The completed project has a slow turning gear motor, lights, and a timer to run for a programmed time at the press of a button.
Because this display had to fit into a pre-defined space, a precision enclosure had to be designed to fit the motorized components. The parts were then created by 3D printing and Laser cutting.
