Death of Superman - Tombstone
In 1992, DC Comics shocked the world by killing their flagship character, Superman. One of the icons of this (as depicted on the cover of the bagged issue of Superman's demise) was the tombstone with the "S" logo.
Another icon was the tattered remnants of the Man of Steel's cape fluttering in the wind. Note the tattered bit of cape at the base.
I used a commercially available (it was around Halloween at the time) Styrofoam stone in which I carved the "S" logo, then painted it in with black paint.
The effect was so well received that a second stone was requested and produced.
